It’s important to note that I’m an extremely paranoid person. Before I went on anti-crazy pills, anytime I had to do anything, I would run through the list of the things that could go wrong. As if just thinking about it would prevent the terrible events from occurring. Normally this would just lead me to have a panic attack and not do whatever the thing was.
I still have a bit of this. I’m a big believer in being prepared and now that I’m traveling a lot more, I decided that I need some emergency supplies in my car. When I mentioned this on Twitter, I was immediately mocked for my paranoia. I have read enough news reports and terrible romance novels to know, that if you’re driving in unpredictable weather you should have basic supplies in your vehicle. In about 90% of the romance novels my mom leaves lying around the house, some woman is trapped in a car with no supplies after she’s caught in a snowstorm after running away from her abusive husband. I refuse to be that helpless woman.
Oh, and I guess there are always those news reports about people who get lost and end up starving/freezing to death and would have been fine if they’d turned the heater on every once in a while or just had a water bottle. I don’t want to be them either.
Therefore, I don’t think it’s ridiculous to have a warm blanket, first aid kit, flashlight and a couple of bottles of water in my car. Especially when I’m driving 8 hours at a time, usually by myself, on highways with lots of miles between cities.
So, mock away, but it will be ME who has the last laugh!
